Have been thinking of purchasing a used set of oem wheels and tires for my "v"... Question: If the wheels/tires already have the tpms installed, what must be done to have the new/used tpms function properly after the wheel/tire assembly is installed...??
The replacement/new set of TPMS sensor serial numbers must be associated with the TPMS monitoring system through a software entry.
Thanks for the response..I assume these serial numbers are on the sensors; so the tires would have to be removed, the serial numbers recorded, tires remounted and some software issues addressed by someone/dealer that has the equipment to do this...????............Is this the proper steps necessary...????
The wheel-mounted TPMS sensors are serialized but also serve as transponders that broadcast their serial numbers, which a TPMS scantool can read, which serials can then be entered into the car's TPMS monitoring system. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen automatically (or the TPMS monitoring system might start tracking sensors on adjacent vehicles), so it either requires dealer intervention or a tire shop with the right tools. But it doesn't require breaking down/remounting tires from wheels.
