OK, i got the dealer to disable the reverse and seltbelt beeps. All the other beeps are driving me crazy. I'm fed up... does anyone know where they are located (there's one external and one in the car. I would like to either remove them or cover them with something to lower the volume. My neighbour will thank you (he says the beep when locking my doors wakes him up at night) thanks
I have an '04 which is the same model as yours. I hate that I can not lock my car without the beeps. I have always muted the beeps in other cars. I muted my wife's car. The headlights flash and that's it. I don't know where they are located.
Well this is for a GenII, but the technical circuit diagrams shows the inside "Buzzer" located inside the combination meter. The way it reads, the internal MCU inside the combination meter actually determines if the buzzer should sound or not. So it would seem your only options would be to disassemble the meter and physically desolder the buzzer, spoof signals into the combination meter so it never thinks it has a reason to sound the alarms (this would also render most of your display useless), or just live with it...
Where have all the beepers gone? Long time asking. Where have all the beepers gone? Long time ago. The answer, my friend, is beepin' in your drive, the answer is beepin' in your drive.
There's a rocker button on each front door that locks the car before you close the doors. I believe it might be a quieter option.
I don't know where the beeper is, but it is a configurable option to have the lock/unlock accompanied by beeping. It's the same sort of option that requires the dealer computer system to set, like changing the reverse from continual beeping to once. I had the dealer make both those changes as quickly as I could when I got my 2010, I believe cars should be seen and not heard.^_^
As Walterm said they can be changed, there are volume settings and they can be turned completely off. Owner's manual page 587. Unfortunately you will have to have a dealer do it for you. Adrian Black and RobH have found the codes to turn the backup beeper and seatbelt beepers on and off using a ScanGauge and these other beepers could probably be done the same way but we don't have the codes for them, yet. ScanGauge work is discussed at length on this thread http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...cussion/64406-scangaugeii-work-2010-a-20.html
This is what I do most of the time. But when I get to work, I close the driver's door, open the back door, grab my backpack, close the back door, and hit the lock button. It's just easier than opening the driver's door and hitting the rocker switch. Also when pulling something out of the hatch. But when I'm getting out to go to the store, for example, I hit the rocker switch BECAUSE it's the quieter option.
I find my 2006 prius quieter than our 2007 lexus RX. It is the same "chrip" sound, but the lexus is much louder. Maybe bigger car, bigger beep?!
