On my 2005 Prius, and every other car I've seen, toll tags are mounted on the windshield behind the rear view mirror where they do not interfere with view out of the windshield. On my 2017 Prime that space already is taken up by something, presumably holding cameras and sensors used by the safety systems. Can the toll tag velcro be attached to this where it's view out the windshield is blocked? Will it still work? Cause any problems for the car?
My Gen 4 is similar. I believe there are warnings in the user manual on placement. I placed my EZ-Pass just to the right of the black box and below the black markings.
The transponder works on a radio signal. Putting it on the plastic could mean the signal is blocked by the plastic or whatever the plastic is covering.
I'm not sure what you have but I have a "fastrak" transponder for the san francisco bay area. I keep it in the compartment under the arm rest between the 2 front seats. It mostly works there. sometimes it doesn't but the bay area toll system then takes a picture of my license plate and when it searches by plate it realizes I have a fastrak and just bills me the normal bill anyway. I'm not sure if that's helpful for your situation...
Texas toll tags come in two types: transponder and sticker. I got the sticker in case I ever drive through Oklahoma. I put it on film so it can be repositioned and placed on the windshield near the rear view mirror mount. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Just take it out and toss it onto the dashboard once you are onto the toll road. Usually it only register once then off you go. Take the transponder off, stash it into the central storage compartment.
Which is fine in case that the car and plate are registered with the toll pass company. Otherwise, you risk getting hit with the hassle of fines if the event a toll misses the transponder.
in NJ we have ez-pass and it has the option of a license plate transponder. I always use them. I figure if a thief is going to steal one i'd rather have it on the front of the car where he can just unscrew it rather than have to go in through a window where most people keep them permanently on display. this way I also never have to deal with it blocking my vision or having to go fumbling around for it.
I installed one of these on my Prime. In NC we don't have front plates, so I had to fabricate a bracket made from aluminum bar, to span the holes intended for the plate bracket, and mounted the EZPass transponder on that. Bar and bolts painted black, of course... Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I travel HWY 680 to San Jose daily I keep being charged for being a single rider. I have my tag set to #3 The express lane monitor does not read my tool tag. I have had the tag replaced numerous times and have placed it to the LS of the RV mirror and the Bottom LS of the windshield. nothing seems to work. Fastrax customer service can not help me resolve this. They told me to stay of the express lane. (LOL) are they serious! .
