One of my local dealers uses Service Pro Full Syn product and charges $65. The other dealer said they use a Mobil 0w-20 product and only charge $45, but are not sure if it is Mobil 1. What does your dealer use for 0w-20 and what do they charge for an oil change? MB860 ?
Toyota brand. But they will put in what ever you bring them. I am not sure of the cost of the oil change as of yet because they are free with Toyota Care. My wife's Tacoma is usually about $150 for a 5k mile service. Posted from my iPhone via the Tapatalk app.
The dealer here uses Toyota 0W20 or whatever you bring in, they will use your oil if you prefer. I think the only 0W20 oil Mobil makes is Mobil 1 synthetic. EDIT: Actually there are two Mobil 0W20 oils, see next page posts 12 and 13. Hint get the one with the green cap.
I've used a few different dealers for oil/filter service (depending on who had the lowest web coupon special at the time), and they all use Toyota 0W-20. Cost around $40 (including synthetic oil premium).
I assume my dealer uses Toyota 0W-20. The last oil change I got was about 2 weeks ago. Before that, maybe a year ago. A year ago the oil changes cost 65 bucks or so (price of their oil) and I went about two weeks ago and it was only 45 bucks. They told me that they started buying in bulk a while ago, which made prices cheaper. I kinda wanna buy my own oil and give it to them to use. Are there any other brands like Mobil 1 that are actually better than the Toyota oil?
The Toyota 0W20 is hands-down the cheapest 0W20 I've ever seen, maybe barring sale prices. Up here I picked some up at the dealership for somewhere between 5 and 6 dollars per liter. Cross the street at Honda their 0W20 is around $9. The only other 0w20 I've seen locally is Pennzoil (sic), typically on sale at ~$10 a liter, or more, regular price. Costco sells no 0W20, D.O. for Canadian Tire.
I used Amsoil for all my vehicles. Mainly because it's a heck of a lot cheaper than the Harley oil at their Dealership, and since I've already paid for their "membership" I figure I may as well order everything at once. I think it was roughly the same price, after shipping, as the Toyota oil 2 years ago when I looked at their price (around $8/qt). If 'Yota has come down a bit, I will probably switch back once I finish my Amsoil. I have enough for 1 more change, and I think 1 more filter at home also.
If you are paying for it, they use the Toyota brand oil, otherwise if it is a freebie, they use Mobil 1.
No one knows which brands are better. There have been no objective tests. The API and ILSAC rating systems don't seem to give much useful information about quality. Under those rating systems Mobil 1 or Toyota oil (probably made by Exxon Mobil or Eneos) will have the same rating as any other brand. ACEA, the European standard, tells you a little more about some viscosities but all of the 0W20 oils are only rated for A1/B1 by that standard. I use Mobil 1 because it is available and I have been able to find it on sale several times for $5/quart. My UOA tests have come back with good results and that's about all we have to go by. I suspect all of the 0W20 oils will perform about the same. I have never heard of a documented case of an engine being damaged because someone used the wrong brand of motor oil. Here is a fairly good reference for the three rating systems: Motor oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My dealer uses 0w20 synthetic oil Toyota brand. I don't believe that Toyota manufactures their own oil so it must be a major oil company. I do all my oil changes and I use Mobil One 0w20. I used Valvoline 0w20 once when I could not find Mobil One. I change every 10,000 miles with a new oil filter and add only 4 quarts in the crankcase so not to overfill. Seem like when I drain and fill up a gallon container for recycle it nearly fills to the top minus maybe 8 ounces or so.... alfon
FYI - Mobil makes at least (2) different 0w20s... Here's the thread... http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...bile-one-two-kinds-kreagen-oreilly-brand.html
Yes, something else I didn't know, thank you. Must remember to be careful when buying Mobil 0W20 oil. Get the one with the green cap that says Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel economy. Mobil USA | Car Engine Oils | Product Comparison Chart
Click on the "Compare to More Products" button in above, to include extra bottles, including the green cap one. My take, just from a marketing standpoint: I think they've got too many choices. Confusing for the consumer. In our area it's mainly specialty automotive stores selling 0W20 (only seen PennZoil), and high cost, typically around $10CAN per liter. Bigger automotive outlets, and places like Costco, are like blind dinosaurs as far as 0W20 is concerned.
