Hi everybody, I have a 2015 Prius which recently financed. I checked was checking a few stuff in the engine bay, so I removing oil cap and cleaning it was one of the things. When I removed the cap, I noticed white film coating the inside of the area underneath the oil cap. I did wipe an area with my finger to see if it would come off and it did. Please see the pictures for more detail. Last oil change was 2000 Miles ago and the car is at 38000 miles, Mobil1 0W-20 Annual Protection, Fram Ultra synthetic oil filter. Thanks
Doesn't look like coolant...so that's a good start. In fact it doesn't look like anything to worry about.
Yeah that looks fine. Coolant in the oil, it would be a build-up of creamy crud, on the underside of the oil fill cap in my experience. And that could also be just from excessive humidity, not necessarily a coolant leak.
Thank you guys for your responses. My brother has the same car with the same mileage. I checked his car after this thread, and there is no sign of this white film in his engine. Can anyone check their car and see if your engine has something like this or not? Thanks again, this community if great
Yes that is a sign of moisture inside the crankcase. Yes sometimes it is just caused by varying weather conditions. BUT......sometimes it is caused by something REALLY important......like a head gasket leak. In my opinion, you should check it again once a week or so and if it comes back you NEED to have a shop check it out. Especially if it is still under warranty. P.S. THIS sub-forum is intended for problems with the forum software. It would have been better to put your question into a more appropriate place.
