Why doesn't the 2012 Prius steering wheel lock?

    Does it have to do with the power button starting the engine? The Prius can't be hot wired by thieves? Does the engine immobilizer cause this....Thanks...Rich

    Not sure. I thought it would be something I miss but after 7 years, it didn't really matter.

    Try turning the steering wheel when the car is switched off ;)

    And yes, the immobiliser will stop the car being hotwired. The flashing red lock light shows the immobiliser is armed.
