I have a 2010 Prius 2 with the most basic factory head unit (radio and CD player). I was looking at a Japanese head unit that has a bunch of plugs I assume are for all of the extra features. My goal is to just use it for the basic audio functions (radio,CD,MD) and possibly watch DVDs on it. From what I can figure out the top 4 plugs on the left are what I will be able to plug into with the current harness in the car. Would my plan work or are there more plugs I need to figure out how to wire to get the basic functions I am interested in? Thank you for the help
Do you have a link to the unit? EDITED TO ADD I may have misunderstood. I thought you.were looking at an aftermarket unit. The more advanced factory units require an external JBL amp, different speakers and wiring. Check aliexpress.com or ebay for an android unit. You'll pick up navigation Bluetooth and a backup camera
I am primarily looking for the minidisc functionality from the head unit and not so much the extra function from an Android head unit. I can get aftermarket head units that have this capability it I was hoping to have an easier time by using the Toyota part.
Adding a HU which requires the factory JBL into a car without the amp will be difficult and expensive. Does you car come with the JBL amp, I don't think so. Make sure you purchase a Toyota HU which is designed for a base car without JBL. Some of the after market, non-major name, units sold on ebay, aliexpress and even amazon are Prius specific. If you buy the right unit you'll keep steering wheel controls. It will have the frame and face plate to fit. Wiring will be plug n play. Some of the newer units don't seem to include the slot for DVD/CD. I don't know if every DVD/CD unit will handle a minidisc.
