I have an interview on Wednesday for a position I applied for. The position would be a huge bump in salary & responsibility, but that's not the most important part. If it goes well and they think I'm the right man for the job, my one-way commute will be cut from 49 miles to around 12. Please keep your fingers crossed for me! Mike
My husband has just encountered such a transition and he is no longer crotchety every day. I can attest to the mental and emotional benefits of such a shortened commute and do indeed wish you luck!

Though you do realize, of course, that this will not only cut your total fuel consumption, but will also reduce your overall MPG. (In March I went from a 30 foot commute to 35 miles each way... which is what motivated me to get a Prius in the first place.)
