While I wait for my 2010 to be delivered, I emailed my dealer. I asked him to install the iPod interface ... so that I can access my tunz from the steering wheel. He told me that if I hook up the iPod interface, I will lose XM ... it's one or the other. Is this true? I know that I can plug in my iPod through the aux input, but, being under the armrest, my access is limited. I would rather use the steering wheel. On the other hand, I want to give XM a try. OH! The trials and tribulations of a Prius owner.
I am not sure how big of a difference it makes, but what Prius model are you buying? The different radios may have limitations for inputs, but I know that in my car (Prius V), I have many differnt audio inputs (FM, AM, SAT, AUX, BT, (and one more, I do not recall offhand), so in this version of the radio, you would NOT lose XM in order to get iPod, but you would have to select one input at a time.
There is an iPod adapter currently available as an accessory for cars with the base stereo (Prius II). In September there will be a USB / iPod adapter included in Prius III, IV & V cars with the nav package (and upgradeable for those puchased before September). If your car's coming with XM, then it's not a Prius II, meaning there is currently no iPod adapter available, but will be in September--only if you have nav.
Oh goody. I was debating wether or not to order the iPod accessory yet, incase it would delay me getting my car by a day or something. But now I realize it's completely out of my control until december. I guess I can get used to the car first before fiddling with the iPod.
