Hey there, was wondering if I could speak with someone who has physically done the Yaris cam(s) into their 2G Prius. A little about me, I’ve been a Honda/Acura specialist for 24yrs now including many years building high hp naturally aspirated race engines for RealTime, Honda HPD, etc. I recently picked up a 2009 Prius with battery pack issues for $300. So as a project, I’ve been tinkering around with it. Still in the process of rebuilding the traction battery pack, but also was intrigued by the idea of using Yaris cams. The junkyard near me had a Yaris come in recently, so I jumped on it and grabbed both cams, all the buckets, and the fuel injectors. I’m guessing with both cams installed, the vast majority of the “Atkinson” will be gone, as it’s actuated thru valve timing. I’m curious why several people only installed the intake camshaft. Is this a cost saving measure? If buying new parts, ok I understand. But I’m trying to figure out why you would not do it period. If anything, it would create better results. Less chance of v2v contact, but it’s not like we are dealing with anything massive on cam specs anyway. Another question was I’m sure most of you have access to a scan tool, and surely if you’ve installed cams then you definitely do. I am curious what kind of short and long term fuel trim numbers you have been seeing before and after the cams. I’m planning on doing both cams, and use the Yaris VVT actuator since it’s already on there. I also plan on ordering the proper sized buckets if necessary, although I have about 20 or so in a box, as well as the fact two of my good friends are Toyota MDT’s at the dealership nearby, they have spares. I am curious about the injectors tho, as I was planning on using the Yaris ones, which are royal blue in color. The Yaris also had about half the odometer my Prius has, so if anything for that alone. Anyway, would love any feedback. I’m also here if anyone has unique questions with Honda stuff, race engines, etc. Can post credentials and some other cool pics but for now wanna get this Yaris intel sorted out. Cheers!
