So, what have you owned? Here's my life list: 1971 Corona, red, $2,100 Wanted a VW, but my dad said Ralph Nader said they were unsafe. My mom got a Bug 6 months later. I asked dad how come she got one but I couldn't. Dad said: Mom gets to make up her own mind. 1975 Volvo 244 DL, orange, ~ $4,500, bought in 1977 or 1878 I wanted a Triumph or an MG, but the ex (at that time the pre) said I'd need a mechanic on retainer. I cried when Ingmar (the Orange Volvo) died in 1988 or so at 150,000 miles 1986 Toyota Corolla wagon, bought in 1987 or 1988, blue Unmemorable in all respects 1990 Mazda Miata, bought in 1989, red Lust at first sight. They were wait-listed in Chicago. I was home visiting my mom & high school buddies in Cincinnati, and found one for sale. Sticker was not on the car. Traded the Toyota wagon on the spot to buy it. Loved it for 11 years. 1998 Subaru Forester, bought in 2000 Sold the Miata (loved that car, but it was leaking oil at 120k) to a guy I met in a Dunkin Donuts. The Forester was a great northern winter car. 2008 Prius, bought in December 2007. Hoping for along love affair!
1991 Toyota Camry - purchased in 2000. My first car. Served me very well. The only reason I gave it up was because it was at the point where it just wasn't worth sinking more money into. 2007 Toyota Prius - purchased in Feb 2007. My second car (and first new car). Love at first drive! Or close enough anyways. And that's all there is.
1978--first car '69 VW Bug. 1981--some other VW that was a hunk of junk. 1982--1979 Mercury Bobcat. 1994--Mazda 323 (1st brand spanking new car and negotiated on my own) 2000--Mazda Protege (First car to pay cash for) 2005--Prius (First car that I've named) Not a bad record-- 6 cars in 30 years.

Interesting how many people had bugs as their first car. Next generation had corrollas.

1974 Ford Courier (aka Mazda) Pickup - Everyone should own one crappy vehicle during their lifetime to make you appreciate the others - this was my crappiest vehicle and was my vehicle when I was in college in the early 80"s. I learned how to work on autos from owning this vehicle. I think the next owners blew the engine in less than a year. 1982 Toyota Pickup - A luxury vehicle compared to the first one, sold it after buying: 1989 Ford Ranger Pickup - Bought new, owned for 11 years, sold to gypsies 1997 Ford Explorer Sport - I still own it. I like everything about it except for the horrific gas mileage. It is really bad, much worse than its size would lead you to believe. Just drove it through a snowstorm up to Tahoe and back last Saturday. 1993 Toyota Pickup - inherited from my GF when she bought a 01 Avalon. It was my commute vehicle before I bought the Prius. Only problem was that I could barely fit into it. My head touched the roof, my knees touched the door and gearshift and if I had gotten into a minor accident, I would likely have died at the scene. Sold to a farm - perfect application. 2007 Toyota Prius - I am planning on testing out if the battery will outlast the 10yr/150k mi warranty.

Since I didn't notice anyone mention any AMC products(other than a Jeep) I thought I'd jump in. I inherited my great-grandfather's '71 AMC Hornet in 1980. It had 52K on the odometer and it was on it's second clutch that was starting to slip. Great-grandpa was hard of hearing and revwed until he could hear the engine speed up then he let the clutch out real slow. The really sad thing was that my grandfather had owned the car before and had driven it the first 15-20K miles. I replaced the clutch and drove it over 40K and never even had to adjust the clutch. It was a straight 6-cyl with a speed manual with a column shift. My next car was a '73 AMC Hornet hatch that I transplanted the engine and trans from the '71 into. Those cars were deceptively fast as a guy who in a Rally Sport Camaro who tried to cut me off by forcing me into oncoming traffic found out. I should note that these cars would easily return 25 MPG tanks. This was even before I discovered FASing. My next car was a '76 AMC Pacer that my grandmother loaned me $450 to buy. The car would have been an FE machine if it were a MT car. It handled like a go-cart. I could take 90* turns at 30 mph and never slide any at all; and this with bald bias ply tires. Imagine the death-turns Wayne Gerdes could have managed in that? My next car was a '67 Rambler that I transplanted the engine from the '71 Hornet into. I guess I was into recycling back then. Then, I purchased a '74 Hornet with very low miles and drove it for 2 or three years until somebody pulled out in front of me and I T-boned them in the driver's door. I think that car would still be on the road today if it wasn't for the crash. After the '74 Hornet, I broke with my previous pattern for a bit and bought an '83 Plymouth Reliant. I drove that for a few years until the head gasket started leaking and I traded it in on my first new car. The first new car was an '87 Plymouth Horizon 5MT. This car was special to me in several ways. It was my first new car, it brought both of my children home from the hospital when they were born, and I drove it longer than any car before or since for that matter;139K+. This car achieved a best tank of 42 MPG and this was still a carbed engine. In '88 They all went to EFI. During the time of the Horizon, I had a slight relapse and got another AMC. It was an AMC Eagle station wagon. The car went great in snow up to the headlights and could still get 20+ MPG on the highway. When the Horizon came to the end of it's time with me, I traded it in on a '95 Neon 5MT. I got it in May(?) of '94 so it was a first year of the new model and I had virtually no trouble with it until it hit ~100K and blew a head gasket. The car could consistently return low 40's MPG and got a best of 47+ going from Cadillac, MI to Elkhart, IN. ~One year after getting the '95 Neon, I got a '96 Neon automatic for the wife. When the '95 Neon blew the head gasket I traded it in on a '00 Neon. My mom was driving it when a kid in a Ranger blew a stop sign and caught her in the rear passenger side door and totaled it. While we still owned the '00 Neon, I slipped to the dark side and bought a '98 Durango. I was able to consistently get 20mpg on the highway with it since I was , by then, starting to get more serious about my driving techniques. Other than that 'nough said. When the '00 Neon got wrecked, I found a '92 Gran Prix for $3K and it is still being driven mostly by my mom. When gas started rising in the early '00's I sold the Durango() and bought my '97 Saturn. The next car was my '99 Saturn that my son is driving. On May 19th of 2007 I bought my Prius. Sorry for being so long winded.
I can't remember the year of purchase, but I can remember the order- 1972 Toyota Corona 1969 Ford Mustang 1977 Datsun B-210 1984 Chevy Cavalier (?) Mazda 929 1996 Suzuki X-90 - tons of fun and super cute; loved it, but married DH, and he can't drive a stick... he was gonna kill the poor thing 1999 Honda CR-V 2007 Toyota Prius This is my personal car history, and doesn't include any vehicles that were mostly driven by other members of the household
1967 Chevy Nomad Wagon, was my parents that I learned to drive in. They paid around $2700 used back around 1970. 1963 Cadilac Fleetwood Eldarodo, was my moms she bough from the estate of a relative for $1500 and my first to have nearly full time use of beginning around 1975. 1980 Ford Pinto Wagon my dad let me drive quite a bit as well. 1971 Pontiac Tempest T37 was my first car in my name sometime early 1976 as a gift from one of my favorite uncles (the words "one of" added just in case one of my other uncles reads this). It was sky blue color until I painted it Midnight blue. Similar to this. After highschool, I restored cars for a while, so most close relatives traded cars with me while I painted theirs or did some engine work, I had the following on loan for 3-6 months at a time while they drove my T37: 1968 Ford Torino, 1975 Ford Pinto, 1977 AMC Hornet, !963 VW Bug. To be continued after dinner. I'll get into the boring 80. Thank God for the 2007 Prius. OK, I back now, and true, nothing could be more boring than the 1980 Pinto Wagon already mentioned. 1977 Pontiac Sunbird hatchback, metalic red with window loovers added on the back. Purchased for my wife in 1982 for $3500 while I was finishing college. Dealer signed it over to me and gave me a receipt without collecting any payment, and I didn't remember until I left and was filling it up with gas. I had to go back and knock on the locked up showroom doors to remind them I had not payed them and they were very thankful. 1982 Pontiac J2000 Wagon, beige, purchased in 1985. OK, I take it back, that car was more boring than the 1980 Pinto Wagons. 1984 Plymouth Voyager, two tone brown and gold, around 9K in 1986. 1980 Pontiac Sunbird hatchback, white 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager LE (loaded), ICE Blue, FIRST NEW CAR purchased for $19k from a flaky auto broker who didn't pay the dealer. When I took it in for first service, the dealer called the auto broker and told them they were going to reposess the car if it wasn't paid for by the end of the day, and then when I arrived to pick it up, they told me the whole story and that the broker had just paid about 15 minutes prior to my arrival. 1987 Red Hyndai Excel (Pony Car) bought for $750 from a family that was moving to Africa. 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE (loaded), Metalic Red with quad captains seats in grey, $25 K from a better auto broker. 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan ES, bright metalic silver Mid life crisis begins to set in 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan ES, bright almond metalic Mid life crisis kicks into full gear 2005 Honda Accord LE with Leather interior and V6, almond color. Gass mileage was too low for my comute. 2001 Toyota Corrolla, bought for my son, but it is in my name, so it counts 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid white, mileage not good enough for a hybrid. 2007 Prius Package 5 in Silver Pine Mica, and mid life crisis is ended.
