My Prius was involved in an accident. The A/C was damaged. I got everything fixed but now there is no power going to the compressor. Any suggestions? Does anyone know which relay controls the power to the compressor?
Has the system been properly charged since the accident? If the system detects too low of a charge it will cut off power to the compressor to avoid damaging it. Likewise, if the system has too high of a charge it will also cut off power to the compressor.
If this is a result of the accident, you should contact the insurance company and let them now the car is not finished being repaired. No matter who was at fault, the insurance should have fixed everything. Good Luck, let us know what happens next!
Thanks for the response. I had the condenser replaced and two of the lines. The guy who did it for me says there is no power coming from the 3 orange wires that connect with the compressor. Hope I'm explaining this right????
Did they really put in Freon? I thought it was banned years ago. If that's what they put in the Prius' AC system...
Hehe... Hopefully he didn't charge it with freon or you'll be wanting to find a new AC guy. However, your best bet is to get a Toyota TIS subscription... It's only $15 for two days of access and with that you and your AC guy will be able to see the factory wiring diagrams as well as the diagnostic procedures for things such as... No power to the AC compressor. Brett
Those three orange wires come from the inverter. The inverter is responsible for providing high voltage AC to power the compressor motor. If the "guy" is correct, then there is something wrong with the inverter, perhaps it or the power cable also was damaged in the accident. At this point it sounds like you should involve a local Toyota dealer to diagnose the problem and propose a solution.
If the system was charged with R134A (the right gas), the compressor was running at the time. You can't charge the system without running the compressor.
