I looked at the first site and also blackcircles.com and can't see anything better than "C" in 195/60/15. It's interesting to see just how many (as in most of them) are rated E's and F's. No wonder so many people who just by "random" replacement tires, without any consideration of LRR, end up complaining about dropping MPG. I think I just found a "winner", Falken Ziex ZE-912, rated G. Ouch! I'm sure I've seen threads by people running this very tire and complaining about lost MPG but swearing that "it's not the tires, there's something wrong with my Prius". I also think the same person said that these were sold to them as LRR tires. I think it's interesting just how low the bar is, for manufacturers or retailers to claim LRR when they don't have to back that up with anything quantitative. That's why I think these rating are a good idea, and hopefully we'll see them mandatory in Australia soon too.
Do not forget that as far as RR is concerned no manufacturer has an A so that C is second from top as far as ratings go. But these ratings do put the cat amongst the pigeons as far as manufactures previous claims for LRR. As you can see the tests needed for these figures are fair and even. There are some very cheap budget tyres with good RR, but they tend to loose out on wet weather performance.
!!! First Bridgestone tyre with top EU Label A/A grades for fuel efficiency and wet grip, on sale across Europe from October 2012.
Just found that in Bridgestones press release, unfortunately no good for UK/EU Prius as it is only being initially released in 195/65/15's and all UK/EU Prius have 16 inch rims. Strangely most cars now seem to run 16 inch rims.
How long before Michelin bring out something new, and I wonder what the RR of the 16 inch version of the Bridgestone will be.
Michelin's lowest RR tire is already 3-4yrs old so hopefully they will come out with something new. Lately they have been focusing on performance and longevity.
By the time I have worn out my Hankooks they will have 16's available and other manufactures may have caught up or even gone better. These regulations will shake up the tyre industry "for the better" around the globe.
Sorry Grumpy proves anyone can be wrong, but I must admit at the time I was thinking gen2 being in the gen2 forum. Have you noticed how many vehicles run 16 inch rims now and the trend seems to be going even larger rims. Going back to the Hankooks mentioned in a previous thread rated at BB they seem to be holding up very well. At there present rate of ware at 12,000 miles they look good for at leased 50,000 miles. I know with your sort of motoring this would not be the case, but at £60 each fitted I am very happy with them.
I did notice that part but then the subject matter was the new tyre information, so I thought it'd be cheeky. I do like my 15 inch rims as the tyres are nice n cheap. I also think those A rated Bridgestones will be furnishing my crappy steel rims at some point. Anyone know of any good winter/all season LLR tyres available in the UK? I'm no longer in the taxi line but am now commuting a 60 mile daily round trip and want something good connecting me with the road.
The best I can find, wait for it, yes Hankook Icept Evo W310. CC rated at £56.46 cannot find a full winter tyre as high or higher rated.
195/65R15 Bridgestone 250 Ecopias, but they were not available in the UK as a like for like replacement (as the UK 250 is NOT a LRR tyre) and since I have replaced them with Bridgestone ER300 Ecopias to good effect.
Surprised your tyres were 195/65s not not 195/60s so the new Ecopia's will fit The gen 2 came with Bridgestone Turanza ER300 not a good tyre very noisy and and had no strait line stability. I was rely glad to get rid of them. Will probably replace my present tyres with the new Ecopia 001s when my tyres wear but that looks like it could be a long time, and thats assuming they bring out the Ecopia in 16 inch sizes.
OK - my wife kerbed a tyre on our UK 56 prius on 16 inch wheels.....looking for one replacement - 195/55x16 87V Previously always fitted Bridgestone ER300 ecopias, but looking on tyreshopper, blackcircle, etyres my options are now:- Bridgestone ER300 ecopias - rated D or E for fuel depending on website, C wet, 70db - £100 Avon ZV5 - rated C, C, 71db - £82 falken ziex ze 914 - rated C, B, 70db - £68 I thought the Ecopias were LRR is the rating correct? the Falkens appear to have the best performance rating of the lot. I can also insure the Avons for £7.50, the Bridgestones come with 'free' insurance, can't insure the Falkens. So do I stick with the Bridgestones, or progressively change to Falken ( the 914 have a much better rating than the 912 ) or Avons that I can insure? p.s. this is the only tyre damaged in 3 years but still had 2/3 tread, so say £60 loss divided by 30,000 miles worth of tyres, say 4, so about a cost of about £15 per tyre so insurance looks just worth it.
