UK/EU LRR tyre information

I looked at the first site and also blackcircles.com and can't see anything better than "C" in 195/60/15.

It's interesting to see just how many (as in most of them) are rated E's and F's. No wonder so many people who just by "random" replacement tires, without any consideration of LRR, end up complaining about dropping MPG.

I think I just found a "winner", Falken Ziex ZE-912, rated G. Ouch! I'm sure I've seen threads by people running this very tire and complaining about lost MPG but swearing that "it's not the tires, there's something wrong with my Prius". I also think the same person said that these were sold to them as LRR tires. I think it's interesting just how low the bar is, for manufacturers or retailers to claim LRR when they don't have to back that up with anything quantitative. That's why I think these rating are a good idea, and hopefully we'll see them mandatory in Australia soon too.

 

Hopefully this will come out in useful sizes.

It could be worth it to switch to a 15". Better FE.

 

Michelin's lowest RR tire is already 3-4yrs old so hopefully they will come out with something new. Lately they have been focusing on performance and longevity.

I did notice that part but then the subject matter was the new tyre information, so I thought it'd be cheeky. I do like my 15 inch rims as the tyres are nice n cheap. I also think those A rated Bridgestones will be furnishing my crappy steel rims at some point. Anyone know of any good winter/all season LLR tyres available in the UK? I'm no longer in the taxi line but am now commuting a 60 mile daily round trip and want something good connecting me with the road.

 

For the GenII, 195/60/15 was the non-North American 15" tire size. In NA it was 185/65/15.

 

195/65R15 Bridgestone 250 Ecopias, but they were not available in the UK as a like for like replacement (as the UK 250 is NOT a LRR tyre) and since I have replaced them with Bridgestone ER300 Ecopias to good effect.

 

OK - my wife kerbed a tyre on our UK 56 prius on 16 inch wheels.....looking for one replacement - 195/55x16 87V

Previously always fitted Bridgestone ER300 ecopias, but looking on tyreshopper, blackcircle, etyres my options are now:-

Bridgestone ER300 ecopias - rated D or E for fuel depending on website, C wet, 70db - £100
Avon ZV5 - rated C, C, 71db - £82
falken ziex ze 914 - rated C, B, 70db - £68

I thought the Ecopias were LRR is the rating correct? the Falkens appear to have the best performance rating of the lot. I can also insure the Avons for £7.50, the Bridgestones come with 'free' insurance, can't insure the Falkens.

So do I stick with the Bridgestones, or progressively change to Falken ( the 914 have a much better rating than the 912 ) or Avons that I can insure?

p.s. this is the only tyre damaged in 3 years but still had 2/3 tread, so say £60 loss divided by 30,000 miles worth of tyres, say 4, so about a cost of about £15 per tyre so insurance looks just worth it.
