Folks, the 2012 PiP just refused to activate yesterday and threw a code "P0AFC", which mystified the local Toyota dealer. The 12V battery (2 month old Optima Yellow Top) completely completely discharged overnight. Jump-starting did nothing. Jump-starting along with the Toyota fob "T-to-Power Button" procedure did start the car, with the following two alternating messages on the dash display: "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM STOP THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE PLACE" and "P LOCK MALFUNCTION WHEN PARKING, PARK IN FLAT PLACE AND APPLY PARKING BRAKE SECURELY". ToyotaCare sent a free tow to closest dealer, Toyota of Louisville, who is mystified and will keep the car for a few days. Internet shows two P0AFC codes for a 2010 Prius (P0AFC-129 and P0AFC-150), both related to the hybrid system (inverter, etc). Search of PriusChat so far shows nothing on this code. Anyone out there in PIPland see this before? Thanks in advance.
The dealer needs to get on the phone with Toyota's dealer advanced support group. The only consolation here is that this is clearly an issue covered by the warranty. In fact, Toyota probably really will want to get the bottom of something like this as a quality issue.
Yes that's the Gen III 2010 codes pdf I found - I was writing from memory. Not an inverter issue. I'm surprised at the relative uniqueness of my fault code's (non)appearance here on PriusChat. Not a good way to be a pioneer...
I bought an Optima battery in July because the OEM battery gave out in July. More new facts: Toyota dealer reports that the Prius has a constant parasitic draw of 1.4 Volts now.
That doesn't make any sense. Parasitic draws are measured in Amps, not Volts. (If this was a satirical comment, sorry I missed it.)
sounds like whatever killed the oem, has done the same to the optima. i think they were having this trouble in europe.
Well, mystery solved. The "parasitic 1.4V draw" (via phone) turned out to be a constant 1.4 amp draw. I just spoke to the tech in person after a family vacation. The draw was caused by a faulty wiring connection while installing the JDM folding mirrors.

I installed the mirrors. I bought the Taiwan mod kit used from another member here. It's early yet, but based on some symptoms I suspect the li'l used circuit box that came with the Taiwan kit. I made all the wiring connections myself and checked them several times since installation, so...
