How does one tell if a 2005 Prius has the factory JBL audio system installed rather than the standard non-amplified system? Would it be worthwhile to install the JBL system from a junkyard while upgrading to a modern Pioneer stereo head to use with a backup camera, bluetooth and carplay?
Generally, the easiest way to tell is checking under the RF seat for the amplifier/controller unit. Second tell-tale is the centre speaker installed in the top of the MFD cowl. No, it is the general consensus that this is not a sensible proposition. In some ways, you will actually be better off upgrading a non-JBL system, which just upgrading the head unit will give you much greater bang for your buck (and effort).
I have a amplifier and cd changer- tape deck for you if you decide the jbl route. Free But I wouldn't bother utilizing this system, just replace it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
