How can I wire and power a center speaker in non-JBL stereo system? Is a dual-voice coil speaker needed? Can I use original JBL center speaker without too much modification? From my info, The center speaker is powered by JBL amp under passenger seat and the plug is attached to whole wire harness. If simply possible, how can I just add two wires to power up from stock stereo? or extra amp and wiring needed?
the center speaker is kind of a cheesy little pos that doesn't sound good. for less than it would cost to mod your dash, you could replace the door speakers with some efficient, clear sounding aftermarket component speakers that will make everything sound better: news, audio books, death metal, etc. I had alpine tweeters that weren't that expensive in my front doors, they weren't harsh or shrill but they were just clear and crisp, and they snapped right into the factory location with no mods.
Just see some high end cars have center speakers to improve sound stage. I already swap the dashboard with speaker hole and have cover for center speaker, but not limited to original JBL speaker, I have some already. I also replaced my door speakers, but just want to get the center one to get sound better.
IF your head unit is not designed with a "center" output channel......this might be a largely wasted effort.
Otherwise using another amp to re-route like factory JBL wiring does? Original JBL headunit does not have center output as well, instead it connects to another amp to make center output.
it just seems like a lot of effort and expense for a tiny improvement at best. I replaced all my speakers, added insulation to all the doors and installed a kenwood 2din in my '04, it sounded way better than the JBL in my '06, and the door insulation cut down on road noise too.
That is my reaction to a LOT of things proposed on here.......but I pretty much gave up on expressing it. Nobody wants to hear it.
