i have a 2007 pkg 1 and the controls on the steering wheel dont light up and there is no daytime running lights. is this just the package i got?
The steering wheel will light up when the headlights are on....but they're not terribly bright. I feel that they're more than adequate when it's really dark out, but others feel that they should be brighter so they're easier to see when there's a little light out but the wheel is dim. I suspect yours works too but you haven't checked when it was really dark out. DRLs are not available in the US.
I agree with Evan: The controls are bright enough when it's really dark out. Once you get used to them, they are easy to use, even at night. Tom
Use braile. Each button has it's own feel, once you get used to the feel of each button which doesn't take a long time to learn, it's like changing gears in a manual, you feel it in you don't need to look to see what you're doing. This is safer than looking at the wheel. You will note that some buttons have a raised shape on them, while down buttons have indented surfaces.
My wheel is too dark. It is worthless. That can not be right. Toyota needs to fix this. It pisses me off. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you for any help. psssb (2008 Prius) Posted November 29, 2007 <_<
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(psssb @ Nov 29 2007, 11:35 AM) </div> It's not changeable. Most of us felt as you do when we first started driving a Prius, but now I find the lights on the wheel bright enough. I think it's just a matter of getting used to them. Tom
I'll add this: While I agree with Tom's view that "you'll get used to it" after some time, it still is upsetting that the lighting is so dim. After a couple of weeks, actually, I became accustomed to the dim lights. More valuable, though, was becoming used to the placement of the buttons and their feel. The bigger concern to me is that the hazard light switch is not illuminated. Unfortunately, it is right next to the (also un-illuminated) ODO switch. I've reached for the ODO switch in the dark (in order to check the trip odometer) only to turn on the hazards. This is not something I want to be doing!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(a priori @ Nov 29 2007, 12:14 PM) </div> I agree. Toyota makes a habit of only back-lighting major buttons, and I don't always agree with their choices. Tom
If you're spending time reading the steering wheel you're not spending enough time with your eyes on the road.
Another wheel isn't that bright either. At first I thought they didn't work, until it got darker out and then I could still hardly see them. I guess in my case anyway, I'm used to seeing them brighter in other cars. I would think they should make them adjustable along with the regular dash light, brightness adjustment.
