Hi all, A few months ago I replaced the stock Goodyear tires on my 2006 Prius with the same tires. Until recently the best MPG I got was in the low to mid 40s. Before I replaced the old tires the car averaged about 54 miles per gallon. Now, after 4000 miles on the new tires the car is consistently getting 50 miles per gallon. I knew that it would take time to break in the tires, but I had no idea I would have to wait about 4000 miles to achieve decent mileage. Perhaps next time I replace tires I should look into drag racing slicks as they are smooth and roll extremely easily. My 2008 Prius is at 4800 miles and now is getting around 50 miles per gallon for the factory tires. Hope this helps anyone who has questions about tires and mileage.
actually drag slicks will reduce your mpg. they're soft and sticky, in order to maximize traction. i know your post was semi-sarcastic, just correcting it for anyone else who may find this thread in a search.
I just replaced the original Goodyears (after 67,000 miles) with BFG G-Force Sport 205-60-15 on stock rims. According to tire rack specs, the BFGs weigh 5 lb. more per tire than the (stock size) Goodyear Integrities. I took a hit in mpgs, but the car is so much better to drive. Quieter, and smoother riding, and handles like a (tall and tippy) F1 car! Oh, yeah, the mileage. I went from an easy 49-50 (MFD indicated) to about 44.5. At times the scan gage says 41 point something for a tank. I reset the total MPGs (MFD) 3000 miles ago when I got the tires. I expected to get some of that back following break in, but not so far. I do 99% freeway, and run about 40/38 tp (same as the Goodyears). I have the same tires (205-55-16 size) on my Subaru, and thought I'd try them for the Prius. If they last another 67,000 miles, I'll probably be out of the car by then!
