OMG, thanks for figuring this out! I can't believe no one else replied to this thread. It came up on a Google search for me. I was driving on FWY...
I found that I can't hear my paired iPhone 6+ through the car stereo unless the system mode is in "Bluetooth"- that is toggle FM, AM, Blootooth....
