Alright, I wrecked the Prius a few weeks ago, but one question I have is when we first bought the car, the first place we took it was home. Got 52mpg. A few hours later, we went to Lexington KY to an Art Museum, our speed was between 89-97mph. Went down to 46mpg, witch is understandable considering we were going about 100mph the whole way. We did a little speed run, and got it up to 104mph, then afterwards, stayed at 75-80mph. Went down to 41mpg. We stayed with family in Lexington, drove through town, low speeds, 20-35mph traffic. Went down to 25mpg...But after a few weeks, it climbed back up to 48-53mpg, what caused this? I would have thought since we were in town, it would have went back up to maybe 48mpg...
Re: I dont know what happend here. 25mpg can happen if you got the heater running full blast in stop n go traffic.
Re: I dont know what happend here. Yes this is probably it, though 25 is very low. I keep my car at about 68-70 while doing deliveries, been getting 36-38 in this colder weather and I drive the car very hard and leave it on while going to doors. I've found if you just turn on the HVAC only when the engine MUST run you will keep the car warm while still saving your mileage. Just hit the button when accelerating, then hit it again when coasting or slowing down in traffic.
Re: I dont know what happend here. Well, it actually depends on your coolant temp. For example, if the coolant temp was hot enough, it wouldn't force the engine to turn on to produce heat.
