My apologies for the newbie question... With my dealer offering to sell on upgraded Nav disc for $300, I am looking for other sources. My question is will a previously owned (used) disc work? Or is it similar to some PC s/w and loadable one time only? Again, sorry for the question but I just want to understand my options. Thanks
We just bought an '05 with nav, and they did not mention anything about upgrades to the navigation system. I will watch this thread to see what the outcome is, as I am interested in the newest updates for gps systems and I did not want to have to carry my TomTom with me in the car.
There is no magic here... it's just a DVD. A full, 9.x gig DVD (dual layer), but a normal DVD none the less. If you're determined enough, you can ferret out a source disc image out of the internet, and the means to put it on a blank DVD. You'll be looking for the Gen 4 DVD to meet your needs. Personally, I don't see much difference between the 5.2 version of the disc over the 8.1. Coverage near my house still sucks, and is just not worth the full dealer price.
It's in the dash. There's docs floating around on the site here that show where, but it's somewhere in there. The DVD unit sits under the driver's seat.
Try e-Bay or Craigslist. Just make sure it's the correct generation for your car as well as the new version.
