I know it is probably somewhere on this forum, but I cannot find it.... what size are the speakers in the base (non-JBL or nav) gen ii (2004) prius? I'd really not like to do any cutting of the door panels or mounting rings, but if that's the way it goes, then so be it. I've read mounting depth is a problem? Anyone have any suggestions of speakers? I'm looking for good bass reproduction, as I will not be doing a stealth install or a sub installation. Thanks...
Clarification, I want to know what size actually fits without modification.... like what size speaker is standard in the car?
the stock speakers have a plastic mounting ring cast onto them. the actual diameter of the hole is 6 3/16", rear depth is 3.5", front depth is about 3". you will definitely have to drill mounting holes to change the speakers. look for sparky's speaker replacement guide. i bought some 7" dayton audio 4 ohm woofers from parts express for the rear doors, they're not as efficient as the oe speakers, but they do put out some low frequencies.
Were you ever able to figure the size out? I don't want to get the ones from parts express, I want some nice infinity's or something. I saw some guy saying he was using a dremel tool and a bunch of crap to chisel out a space for the speaker and I don't think I have the confidence to do that.
alpine tweeters clip right into the front door tweeter triangle and sound great. if you can't fabricate, crutchfield.com will hook you up with component speakers that will fit without any major modifications. if you're incapable of drilling out the rivets that hold the oem speakers into the door, best you let a "professional installer" do it, and hope he actually knows and cares what he's doing. if you have the jbl system, then just forget about it. you're stuck.
