Most will agree it would be nice if the steering wheel controls were brighter. There has to be a tech out there that knows where the light source comes from. ( Its not magic.) If its a bulb, can a brighter one be installed?? I understand the Braille system of operating a Prius But, brighter light from mother Toyota would be nice !!!!!
I've read around here that all Gen II Prius have a really dim steering wheel. I for one would love a brighter wheel as well...
The lights in the buttons are SMD LED's and if your soldering skills are good you can replace them with brighter ones or even change the color. John (Britprius)
Honestly this is an issue I care little about. In my opinion with "Touch Tracer" and simply my own personal "touch memory" , I don't care if the steering wheel is illuminated or not. It's not like I've ever had any problem finding the controls driving at night. I even find the "Touch Tracer" graphics a waste of time. If it's pure aesthetics? You just think it would look cooler? More power to ya...and good luck. Sorry, just noticed you are Gen 2....no touch tracer... Well light em up! Smoke em if you got em!
The gen2 does not have touch tracer graphics and with 17 buttons on the steering wheel I to would prefer brighter LED's. John (Britprius)
17 buttons? What was Toyota thinking? I want you guys to get those babies shining like they are open portals to other dimensions!
Agreed, I would have loved just a tiny bit more brightness, to further make a quick glance down safer. Oh well, not a big issue, still loves this car
Maybe I'm just very picky or need bifocals at my age, but compared to the 2010 Prius four, that I traded in for a 2013 five, the steering wheel buttons are WAY too dim for me to read. They were much brighter on the 2o1o model. I've already contacted my dealer to find a way to increase the illumination.
