A friend of mine had a Suzuki car that had a persistent leak which created an incredible mold stink under the carpet when the temperature got warm enough. Down here that is pretty much all year long and, I suspect, the conditions in NC would be nearly the same (abundant rain and warm temps).
A new fact that will make the rest of you jealous: Only In Wyoming - only a bill of sale and proof of insurance are required to operate a vehicle for 30 days after purchase. The car doesn't need plates or anything in the window. The problem arises when it is driven out of state. Non-Wyoming cops will pull you over and you'll have to explain your way out of it too many times to make it worth driving 1800 miles back home. The best way is to get a transit tag. Wyoming doesn't require emissions inspections either, though I'm sure this car will pass with flying colors. The 12V battery has been replaced with an Optima Yellow Top and Lexan windows have been installed on the right side. The doors seal fairly well. It doesn't have much wind noise at 55 mph. We'll tape over one 1/4" hole but it is very good without it. This car will drive from Sheridan, WY to North Carolina starting on 1/2/2015.
You think this is the car the OP is refering to? OK, it's a little crumpled, lets a bit of water in, but it drives so hey why not.
It's only squished on one side so it still seats five--as long as some are children & midgets. To quote "Trains, Planes, and Automobiles", the radio still works.
Stop in southern Indiana to have Steve at Prius hybrids sales and service Scottsburg Indiana take a look at it to see what improvements he can make quickly at a low cost. His business is refurbing salvaged Gen2 Prii JeffD
He and a friend made a wide hook out of some scrap metal and pulled up the beam over the rear door a couple of inches using an engine hoist. He also pushed with his lefts from the back seat to raise the roof about 4" at the same location. What isn't shown is the 3/4" overlap between the top edges of the front and rear doors on the passenger side. He'll soon trim that much off of one of those doors because it is awkward to have to open the rear door before closing the front door.
