My Toyota dealer (A1 in CT) does free oil changes for cars bought at their dealership (at 10k mile intervals, If I want it done more often, I do it myself evry other time). I just check the dipstick afterwards to confirm that they filled it to the correct level. They use the correct synthetic oil and Toyota oil filters.

They charge you because you keep paying them!
4.4qts is what the manual says with oil filter change.

Find it in your maintanence book and show them and then tell them you want $15 + tax back
for each oil change. And any damage from over filling will be on their ticket!

You sometimes see ads worded something like this:

"Oil and filter changer, up to 6 quarts, $XX"

Could be something like that, a blanket charge, as long as it's under 6?

Mobil 1 full synthetic. Walmart best bang for the buck

Toyota factory filter. or Napa Gold or Platinum. There's probably others but Fram and house brands are usually garbage.

4.4 qts. But run the engine after the change to fill the filter, then recheck the level.

Beware of the Jiffy Lube places. If you read the fine print on the receipt they are usually not responsible for leaving the drain plug loose or not filling the oil. If you go there at least check the dipstick before driving, and check the pavement where you've been parked for drips/leaks. Keep in mind even if the shop pays for damages its a huge hassle to replace a blown engine.

Jiffy Lubes will scam you also. They will intentionally strip the threads on your oil drain plug and then tell you that you need a thread repair kit. They are also known for unintentionally over tightening and stripping the drain plug and then also needing a repair. They will also take out a clean premium factory air filter and charge you to put in a cheap Chinese filter that leaks dirt.

Dealerships (Stealerships) charging for 6 quarts are just padding the bill. The only business I would give this type of dealer would be warranty work.

NO SUCH THING as a stealership. NO one is putting a gun to your head. Just say NO!

I made a lot of money from replacing engine and/or pistons/rings on Hyundai's because of jiffy lube and
other places like it. A good lawyer will win the case if they try to say they are not responsible for not tightening
the drain plug. At least here in Florida.

But no matter what, NEVER go to any of those places.

Congratulations; you've got the only Prius that has a Camry or TACO oil sump. I believe those has a 5-6 quart oil sump. Bring this to the attention of the dealership management. Tell them your calling the local consumer protection agency and/or local news agencies.
They'll probably offer up some free oil changes to calm you down.....

    Good Luck..

Fram synthetic will be fine. I paired it up with redline and blacks tone oil labs said I was safe for 14,000 mi oil interval changes with the filter. It removes up to 20 microns, not the typical 30.

IDK, the last I checked some of the Frams had cardboard ends on the filter element. Maybe they have different levels of quality. But you can't go wrong with a factory part, it's designed by factory engineers.

WHY use anything buy OEM? You'd spend $1 less a filter? And get a cheaper less quality filter?

Seriously? The amount of oil that came out should be the same amount that goes in.

I'm thinking most people would be intelligent enough to figure that out.

I’m intelligent enough to read owners manual and put in that amount. And check it a day or two later.

checking drained amount and setting that as the amount to refill does not seem like good advice. If the engines consuming oil you’ll be progressively putting in less, with every oil change.

It's fine advice if you know how to read a dipstick.

I believe Grit is talking about the Fram Ultra Synthetic filters. They don't have cardboard ends like their bottom of the line filters. Those are only 5K mile filters by the way. The Fram Ultra Synthetic filters are good for 20K miles and filter better than OEM, but is slightly more resistive under head to head testing - which makes senses.

I never had to add a drop of oil between oil changes, even after 12 years.
