I lent my, and yes last time it will happen EVER, Prius to my brother for a week and when it came back he pointed to the radio and said "the tuner knob won't turn anymore". Well, not only that, but he pushed it in, so I can't even get it out to turn it.
Trying to remember back to my 2008. Seems as though there should be a slight indent when you press the button in, and it should release some more button travel outward so you can turn the knob. I never removed these knobs in my car, you know, to remove dust and other foreign material. So I don't know if any amount of careful prying might return it to service. Can you turn the knob in its present location?
I can’t turn it AT ALL. I’ve tried getting tweezers but to no avail. Only thing left to me is to take the radio off, possibly and maybe pop it out? I’m running blind here guys.
So, you're saying when you press the button in and then release, it does not pop out, so you can then turn it? You're saying it is jammed up and does not move in, out, or turn at all. Is that right?
Maybe there is some sand or grit lodged between the knob and housing. I remember there being close tolerances where something like that might occur. Might be visible with proper lighting. How to clear is another matter. If the face of the knob is flush with the case then there should still be that slight indent available to push the knob in. If it is already pressed in, to a depth of a 1/4 inch or so, and stuck then maybe the mechanism has failed. Cut some thin strips of paper and see if you can feeler gauge around the knob to check for obstructions.
Get a 'can of air.' No. It's not a submariner's trick on a nub..... One of these: Note the 'straw' on the side. You may also want to introduce a VERY SMALL amount of lubricant AFTER you clear the grit out of your knob's....um....(*) hole. I use this: Oil is oil but this oil is completely stank-free in my experience....IYKYK... It's plastics safe and I've used it on automatic weapons - if you think about it sewing machines are sort of the same thing, and the Singer company has no small amount of experience in both fields. You can ususally pick it up at Wally. HOWEVER (comma!) I noted your location. You can tell your friends that you got it at Michaels if you do not want to admit to shopping at Walmart. If those two fail: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/All-Car-Stereos.html?tp=5684 Note: Unless your brother had some wild date involving (presumably) promiscuous females and beaches he may not actually be solely responsible for the grit in your car. You may just be a slob. Or? Your nearly 20-year-old car may be.......a car. Good luck!
