I’m looking at some Apple CarPlay units that supposedly replace the radio in a Prius for my son’s birthday. I’ve been doing some reading to find a good drop-in CarPlay unit that’s already fitted for a 2007 Prius.

There seem to be quite a few options out there, but I haven’t found one with consistently good reviews. Several reviews say the unit doesn’t come with a resistor that’s needed to keep the top dash display working.

I’m not looking to invest in an expensive stereo. Just something that will allow him to play music from his iPhone, use CarPlay, and make hands-free calls while still using the factory speakers in the Prius.

I see quite a few in the $150 range, but most of them still have very few reviews.

Does anyone here have good experience with one of those CarPlay units that drops nicely into the space where the radio and small storage bin are on the dash?

Yes my good luck with stereos has been thru verified companies like Sony Mobile es Kenwood etc . These fly by night jobs that claim they can tune in China . Not so much . I receive vehicles with the stereos in them . Most of them are pretty much crap made out of inferior plastics etc . Maybe dash top is really not that good of a place. All these things that are dash top and widescreen and the latest whizbang tech . Depend on ones phone at all times or you've got pretty much nothing . if you're all ready depending upon your phone for everything in this world a good under rear view mirror mount made if real material . Is probably best in reality. most of the real stereos Sony Kenwood are still in the 225 up range . Crutchfield etc.
