So I have had an ongoing issue with my 2022 XLE almost since new ! I've talked about it on here many times. An AI overview pretty much spelled out my issues, word for word (in a nutshell, all kinds of false alarm pop up messages and such). The only thing that actually fails when the car is showing these messages is cruise control.... which is a big bummer, as I use cruise control a lot. The AI overview actually told me that their was a recall on 2022 XLS's.... but Toyota says that was in earlier 2022 production models, and my VIN # was past those, so they think they had already rectified this before mine was built. Well I'm sorry, but they did not. My car was screwing up since almost new, so what about warranty, right ? Nope. Toyota insists that my aftermarket stereo and alarm "could have" caused the problem. I even disconnected all of my aftermarket stuff, but they say, that's not enough, as it might have caused the problem when it was hooked up. {BTW, I had my alarm and stereo put in the first week I had it, and it didn't start all of this until 2 months later}. Anyway, this is where this story gets kind of stupid IMPO. So I asked Toyota, "Okay, so lets say that I were willing to pay to have my software re-flashed, how much would that cost me ? They told me between $300 and $400. Honestly, that's not a terribly huge amount (although it would be zero parts... and only like 20 minutes of labor) and again the principal of the matter > that Toyota should absolutely cover this. But then they told me, "Oh, and if we do this job, we cannot be responsible for the rest of your computer / electronics system.... So if that fails, it's on you"..... WAIT ! Hold up.... so a multi-Billion $ corporation is willing to take my $300-400, but if that job fails, its on me ??? Honestly, this just sounds ridiculous ! Is this really how Toyota handles business ? Curious to hear some opinions on this matter. Thank you. PS, A person might ask.... "Well if it doesn't actually affect anything (besides cruise control), why would I go through all the trouble.... and risk" ? Well, in 1-2 years, my car is going to need to be smogged (in California) and if it has all kinds of warning codes, including hybrid system malfunction, its not going to pass, and I won't be able to register it
Have you tried disconnecting the 12v battery for a few minutes to do a full reset? You will have to redo the radio presets and cycle the electric windows, but the reset should clear the codes and hopefully they won't come back. JeffD
A decent smog shop doesn't care. As long as the CEL is OFF, all emissions systems are green, you haven't tampered or modified anything in the engine compartment - you should pass. They are focusing on pollution control; so if the car runs clean you should be OK.
