I have a 2006 Prius with about 17k miles on it. Just got into an accident and had to have it shutdown for 5 weeks while it was being repaired. The repairs were completed and the car electrical was checked out by the Toyota dealer and given a clean bill of health. Immediately before the accident I was getting about 45 MPG on the freeway and now I am getting in the high 30's (about 38 MPG). Does the car require some time to "recharge" the batteries before it is back getting good MPG? There is no pulling, so the alignment seems fine, and the tire pressure appears to be OK. Craig
How far have you driven, how many trips that confirm this same FE? Have you checked tire pressure. Did the alignment get checked after the accident? And, as Godiva asked, did you reset the mpg or are you going off of the average since pick up? More than likely things are fine, but certainly one must be concerned that something wasn't fixed exactly right. But please check the things above first, run through at least one full tank of good gas and let us know what the mileage is then.
It seems like the battery had to do a bunch of recharging, now seems like I am back to within 1 or 2 MPG from where I was before the accident, this after driving about 400 miles and a full tank of gas. My guess is that the battery had to get up to "green" charge level a number of times and cycle a bit before it really held the full charge -- not sure if that makes sense or not. Dealer checked the alignment and that was OK. I did manually check the fuel economy, and what I notice is that the prius reports back about 4 MPG less than if I do it the old way (calc miles driven divided by gallons of fuel put in). Do you know what "average" means in the prius terminology?
