Ive looked all over online and had an installer at Best Buy search to see if an '04 Prius is considered a double DIN by removing the CD player/pocket. but everything has just said its "over sized"... Anyone know? Im trying to see if a Pioneer D3 will fit in there. Thanks,
The pocket underneath the stock stereo is Single DIN. On Crutchfield, they sell the Prius Dash-kit and that is only Single. With some fiberglass fabrication, I'm sure a Double DIN would fit.
but by removing the cd player AND the pocket does that make it a double DIN (sorry I'm a techie at heart but a noob to cars)
If you were to remove the current head unit, there is plenty of room. I just found THIS PAGE and it shows a single din with room to spare. Oversized means 1.5 maybe? if you include the lower cabinet, it's almost a tripple.. if that exist...
off hand?.. no clue. all i'm going to do is google it. I'll read through piles of failed solutions before i find a few that work. then i'll post them here.
You can look at this post - Cdog's Blog: New Stereo for the Prius Yeah, the Gen 2 Prius' only have single DIN Metra and Scosche kits. I'm sure you could do something drastic like tear out the the bottom box if that's your thing.
