I have a 2008 Prius with the Bluetooth handsfree that comes with Package #5. I registered my cell phone and my wifes but have a huge pet peeve. Why does the Bluetooth system only look for the last cell phone that it was connected to and not go down the line to the next phone that is registered if it can't find that last one?
Is there some kind of software upgrade that fixes this? It seems like it would be such an easy thing to fix!
No, that's the way it works. You have to punch it up on the screen to switch phones. It's not hard, but a little short sighted. Tom
That stinks. I didn't realize that happened. I only have my phone registered with my Prius. On my Grand Cherokee both our cell phones are registered. It's cool, you can select a primary phone and then the order of preference for other phones (I think up to 4). If the primary phone and a secondary phone are in the car, it will default to the primary. If my wife (her phone is primary) leaves the vehicle as soon as she's out of range the display will give me the message saying "bluetooth successful" as it disconnects from hers and connects to mine (since it no longer sees her). It works flawless... didn't realize this was a problem with the Prius.
It's not really a problem. You have to press the button to pick which phone to use. I don't see that as a problem, it's just a bit more limited than your other car. Tom
That's not too bad sounding. Now I'm curious. I'll have to pair my wife's phone this weekend.... Mike
It's not a "problem", but it's definitely an annoying software design omission. It can become a problem if you have both your phones in the car and the wrong one happens to be paired up and you need to switch phone, but the car is moving so you can't do it until you come to a stop. After living with this annoying "non-problem" for a year, I finally decided to put an end to it by putting in the speed sensor defeat mod.
I was surprised to find this out. My wife and I have been playing "tag" with this feature for seven months now. It's more than punching it up on the screen -- you have to drill down through several layers of menus. If you forget about it before you hit the road, you have to pull over over and stop before you can change it. I find this to be nonsense in a car so technically advanced as the Prius. A software change could make it right, but I'm not holding my breath.
Yes you would think it would be an easy fix. Toyota hasn't even addressed the Call Log issue so I doubt they will care. Use your phone and check the Call Log, it shows the incorrect call times.
Come to think of it, I'm willing to bet that this was a deliberate design to avoid liability issues. Of course, you could install the speed sensor defeat mod and override this restriction (at your own risk and not Toyota's, obviously.)
I have the same issue (wife and myself both use the prius) and this is such a pain in the neck, I contacted coastal tech to see if they have any plans to build a hack for it. Should be worth it, handsfree is obligatory in Cali as of July 1 08. Multiple people should have this issue. Can everybody who't interested in such a hack contact coastal tech as well? Is there another manufacturer of hack we can contact to have this developed?
