It seems that when playing an MP3-CD on the JBL head unit, each folder can only have 255 files in it. The player will play files 1 through 255 and then start over on 1 again. I just re-burned my CD to have less than 255 files in each folder. Has anyone discovered a different way to deal with this? (BTW, I am listening to Audio Books; I dont have music albums with more than 255 songs!. Typically when I rip an audio book, I set the software to create a new file each time there is 2 seconds of silence. I get a lot of files, but if I stop playing a chapter in the middle, it is very easy to continue where I left off...)
I don't know for sure, but the 255 files limit could be hardware, software or posible firmware. It sounds like the field used to adress and store the file number for the files in a folder, is limited the 1 byte. 0 to 255. If it's a software or firmware limitation, there may be an update or hack fix. If it's a hardware limitation, probably not.
This is the CDFS limitation, at the root directory, only 255 files. Just make folders, and put files in folders. NERO Burning ROM software would have told you this.
You press and hold the random button (I can't remember the actual wording) to toggle between random within a folder and random with the entire disc. kevin
