I've never seen an 01 with rear calipers. The Gen I's have drums on the rear.
I agree with Bob, those are classic symptoms of a failed inverter coolant pump.
Can you even stream music on the gen II Bluetooth? I know my son's 05 can't.
Have you tried the new fob to see if it works? It may be working. If it doesn't, the recommendations I would have would be to change the battery...
