It's been in the 80's and really humid here in Chicago, running the A/C at 78 with fan on Med. It does not seem to hurt my MPG car reads 58.9 mpg...
Keep the filter clean and if you take it out for good all the crap that it sucks in will mess up you A/C and heater. And that will be costly
