There is also a setting on the Nav screen to turn heater efficient mode on and off, could be that.

Do you put the car in "N" with parking brake on or "P" when you stop at a stop sign or leave it in "D" ? ISTR reading previously of some problem...
As I understand it the MFD is the screen above the dash, but it has no buttons around it, do you mean the Nav screen ? There is a setting to turn...

Toyota spec has got to be without backing plate as the minimum (thinnest) thickness is less than the thickness of the backing plate.
At the price they charge for them I'd want it to be a perfect match, take it back to the dealer and get the correct coloured one.
It's not likely to be locking and unlocking in quick succession as there's a time limit between locking and then unlocking, IIRC it's default set...
Sounds like you may have the loose shocker nut syndrome, I think there was a recall for it in the US.
