I was under the impression that the TPMS only monitored pressure loss, not increase, so the tyre heating up should not set the warning off.

Stands to reason, when you press the brake the cruise cuts off, so if the brake light switch is shorting or maladjusted then the cruise will cut off.
I would suspect the brake light switch if the cruise keeps switching off.

IIRC, UK, speedo cannot read under but may be up to 10% over. So when speedo reads 77 mph you're only doing 70 mph.
Here in the UK we have a 10% over read. :(
