I drive a 2006 Prius as well, 148k - and she is as sqeaky as them come! Just replaced the hybrid battery.
I hope I am still going in 19 months ...
You can pay Toyota $99 and they'll check it for you ... Do the install yourself though ... Get a Dorman battery, and watch youtube on how to do...
I just installed a Dorman myself ... Why bother with Toyota.
All the more reason to use a Dorman.
How would it be more complicated than a Dorman battery?? That's just silly.

It amazes me that Toyota gives you a new battery, and only warranties it for one year. I bought a Dorman, and I have a 3 year, unlimited miles...
Finished! The difficult part was putting the car back together ... and even that, wasn't so bad ...
So far. So good. Not bad for a girl !!
