Hello all, I would like to report that a Japanese Prius driver, Nobu@Osaka, achieved 2,208km (1,372 miles) per tank. We know Dan and his team did 1,397 miles last summer, however this 1,372 miles was done by a single driver. The previous record by single driver was 1,317 miles by 108@Nagoya in Japan. The displayed mileage was 38km/L (89MPG). His basic mileage technique is Pulse & Glide. Please note that Japanese Prius does not have a bladder and can hold up to about 60L (15.8gallons). Ken@Japan

B) I would guess that warm weather has arrived in Osaka! I have to say he must be able to really focus on his driving! Right now I get distracted by Neil Young's New Album. Costs me mpg's.
wow... so that means Dan's still works cause he only had ~50 litres. Hmm.. isn't it 60 litres because they tilt the car? I thought they had the exact same fuel tank size? Either way, 38km/L is nothing to sneeze at. Congratulations!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ May 21 2006, 03:31 PM) </div> Yes. You're right. The normal max is about 50L. The tilt and shake method will give us 60L max. Thank you for your warm words. Ken@Japan
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ghostofjk @ May 21 2006, 07:14 PM) </div> Yes, it was a flat coast line road with little signal stops. Ken@Japan
Congrats to him... I think??? If we ignore the record for a moment, what was really achieved? 1. A Prius on empty... can't do much with that. 2. 15.8g gone. Apologies for being a buzz-kill, but I just don't see what relevance this has in the "real world."
It adds to the pool of knowledge concerning high-mileage driving technique for the Prius, and possibly other cars by implication. Work with us here, okay? I could say exactly the same about the Indy or motocross or monster trucks, but that doesn't stop enthusiasts. . _H*
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jimgraffam @ May 22 2006, 10:57 AM) </div> It is a kind of games he enjoyed. He was on vacation last week and spending 60 dollars of gasoline, then he shows us the potential of Prius capability. He could play golf whole week and could spend thousands of dollars to enjoy. Ken@Japan
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(EricGo @ May 23 2006, 09:51 AM) </div> We don't know the number, however the engine on distance percent was less than 30%, I think. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(NuShrike @ May 23 2006, 01:17 PM) </div> The speed limit was 40km/h or 50km/h, so the average was about 45km/h (28MPH), I think. Ken@Japan
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ken1784 @ May 23 2006, 01:50 AM) </div> It has to take some serious patience to drive over 1300 miles at an average of 28MPH. I really think that's neat. I'm more impressed when technology will allow that fantastic mileage in everyday life.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mike_m @ May 23 2006, 09:20 AM) </div> He was driving basically at the speed limit. Speeds are a lot lower on Japanese roads than here. I've heard quite a few bitches about how it takes forever to drive anywhere in Japan for distances we take for granted in the Americas.
Ken, are there places that rental Priuses in Japan? Hertz, Avis, or some other local car rental company?
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tideland Prius @ May 24 2006, 12:33 PM) </div> Sure! Toyota Renta-Car services nation wide in Japan. I went to Hokkaido, northern Japan, with my wife last summer. We rented Prius and drove 1,200km with a single tank. Of course, the rental free is higher than Corolla, but the total expense, rental fee + gas, was less than Corolla. Ken@Japan
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ken1784 @ May 23 2006, 09:51 PM) </div> Ken I really appreciate your input. I just wanted to say that! Keep on keeping on! ( I have no Idea how that Last statement will translate but it is meant sincerely and with hope!)
Why do we have to have a bladder anyway... I've never even heard of that in other cars? Is there some kind of benifit? Does anyone know of a conversion to get rid of the bladder and put in a real gastank to get more miles per tank?.... Is the bladder about emissions?
