risky... could burn lots of expensive stuff.

stick with the parallel battery. ;)

Andyprius, I want to ask some questions about this procedure, but I don't want to deviate this thread so I may need to start a new thread?

I was able to get the screen to come up successfully!

I question the recharge procedure as it appears it is charging the battery just as if it was going down the road, but yet it seems its binding against the brakes and it doesn't feel like to me that it could be "good" or ok for the car... is this actually a bonafide recharge procedure.. or just something that works?

I'll start a new thread to ask about the diagnostic prodedure.

no don't do this, it's not a good idea to run the 12 volt system with out a battery in the circuit, to easy to get all kinds of wierd and possibly damaging voltage spikes. Best is to just bite the bullet and pull the battery and change it and re-set the window and the radio stations. A 2k2 Prius probably doesn't have Nav and if it does the battery has been dead so many times the inputs for it have probably been lost as well. Pull the old one clean all the terminals including the ground attach point for the negative cable and put the new battery in and clean the terminals on it as well then connect every thing and start the car and check the charging voltage and if you have a clamp on DC ammeter get that reading as well with every thing on and see if the battery is still getting a charge.

I remember someone boasting of how stable the inverter voltage was as they pulled the battery while running... but your right.. the battery acts as a wonderful buffer for any spikes etc... parallel jumping is very easy...... even a small motorcycle 12V battery would work.. you will only need it for less than a minute while the transfer is done.

I was speaking to Raven only about a permanent exchange of the 12V Battery in the OFF mode. I see no reason to attempt this in the ready mode, but feel there should be no problem. The trick of course is to always hook up the Parrallel connections first. In ready mode the engine could kick in, and affect the electrical parameters somehow. My original experiment of subing the small block battery was to see if it would be adequate in an EMERGENCY. As for permanent replacement I would shop for any 12V/28AH sealed that physically fit and if I had to I'd solder the connections in. Cost $80.00 with an EIGHT year warranty. Cutting wires and desoldering is no big problem. I see that Honda has a neat little battery that would easily fit the compartment. As to your question, whether it would work on your 06, I don't know, you seem fairly prepped iin basic electricity, so try it! (for a very short period) You do now have your 2006? In regards to Franks comment I never have suggested running the Prius without a Battery, that would be crazy, I don't know where that came from. The Prius is not a motorcycle with only a magneto needed to support it!

Again in responding to Ravens or anybodys 12VDC Bat problem, this procedure gives a longer and last minute charge before leaving the car parked for any period of time, WITH as in Ravens situation a questionably BAD battery. And by observing the screen one can determine the strength and reliability of the Battery. It's nice to have a green HV screen, but it's far more important to have a 12V Battery reading around 14Volts after charge with no load (little load) Remember th Battery is the HEART of the engine. Like any car the Prius will not survive without the engine.
