Look for the term "Eco focus", it's one of the filters down left side column too. Do keep in mind, it's a pretty broad spectrum too, some roll better than others.
yea, as you said, eco focus is rather broad and doesn't specify low rolling resistance. I'm down to Toyo Versado Eco, Hankook Kinergy PT and Kumho TA11. Anyone have any opinions? These are reasonably cheap and looking for one that does good fuel economy. I have not used Toyo before but have used Hankook and Kumho. I drive 110 miles a day so if anyone has heard anything bad like the tires separating or blowing sidewalls, let me know please. Thanks
No experience with any of those tires. I get that your exited to have an OLD but new to you prius and are trying to spend as little as possible to keep it on the road. Don’t get your undies in bunch fretting over a mile or two difference in what you may or may not achieve. If you get 45-46 that is about normal for the average GEN 2. Under normal driving conditions with AC running. If you want to maximize your mileage don’t use your A/C beyond an initial cool down. Then crack your windows about an inch. You’ll get decent airflow and probably gain 2-3 mpg on average. I was surprised how much it made a difference. But I don’t live in Phoenix either. iPhone X ?
Tires IMO are about more than characteristics people want from their tires. IE: fuel economy, noise reduction, smooth ride, buy in price, long term durability. I hesitate to make "cheap" or low buy in price the overriding criteria. Because I think tires are a safety issue. The difference in "savings" goes right out the window when you are slamming on your brakes, and depending on those tires. That's not to say you can't look for a good deal. But I would just look for reviews, narrow it down to a couple of "good" choices, then look for the best deal you can find. Being the cheapest buy in, wouldn't necessarily be my overriding criteria. In fact. I know it wouldn't be. I think the challenge is searching for the best deal, on the best set of tires you can get. Not necessarily determining which "cheap" tires are best. No cheap tire is a good deal, if the tires are cheap.
Yea, I know the Hankooks will be fine, I've used them, my wife has used them and hasn't complained as well I don't know about the Toyo tires although they look pretty nice but I haven't had experience with Toyo before.
Toyos are a big brand on the West Coast. I have been satisfied with all the Toyos I have run, but they are mostly sold by the big dog West Coast -- particulary Pacific Northwest area- tire dealer Les Schwab. Nearly everyone I know runs Toyos. I actually do not, because I had an unpleasant experience with the local dealer and refuse to go back. My Generals are doing fantastic and I will stay with them, but Toyos are good quality -- albeit, usually overpriced.
