05 model, Sept 04 built. The distortion is there on mine. For all we know it could be that the glass on the inside is curving down to meet the black plastics. It's not that big of a problem (for me anyway) unless you stare at it.
I'm happy to report that 3 window replacements later, the defect is gone. Kudos to Capitol Toyota in San Jose for keeping their customer happy. Now we're just about even, after they tried to screw me on unnecessary service (telling me that my air filter was dirty right after I had changed it, wanting to change the transmission fluid at 30k, etc).
I noticed this "defect" a couple of days ago, but had not noticed it before. I was in Vegas over the weekend where is was about 110. I wonder if extremes of heat can cause the distortion? And yes this is a defect. Curved glass can easily, well relatively easily, be made with no optical distortion.
