I am sure this question is answered somewhere in all the posts but here it is. I am thinking about getting a 09 Prius pkg2 but the dealer says that XM cannot be added since it is not "xm ready" radio. Will the unit that coastal sells work with the non xm ready radio?? I have had xm for several years in my civic and am somewhat hooked on it. Thanks
If the radio in the car is NOT xm ready you will have to get an aftermarket system with am FM modulator in it. I do not know about the Toy SCC-1 however. Pioneer makes a nice little unit I have used for years in my 4Runner. Works great. I bought a spare, its new sitting in a box somwhere in my office!!! You have options, but your best bet is buy the car with a radio that will accept the XM! Good Lucd de Pat KK6PD
I have package 5 and had XM installed. Reception was poor with the antenna installed on the flat side of the dash under the windshield as outlined in XM install for Toyota...the Sirius install called for roof mount behind the FM antenna. I had it move there and reception improved greatly.
No, No, No........Package 2 will work just fine. I know because I have a '09 Pkg 2. You don't want to go the modulator route. Just get a used XM receiver on ebay for about 20 bucks including the antenna, remote and power cord. Plug the output into the ipod jack in the center console. You can velcro the receiver to the dash or put it in the space under the radio. The XM radios come with a small remote for changing stations. I did this exact thing to our Lexus and it works PERFECT. Go For It!!!!! Regards
