I don't know much about the configuration of the cross in the North American market. There is no four-wheel drive version in China, only pure oil and dual-engine. It is equipped with an m20g engine, and it is not mentioned whether it is an Atkins cycle. Its power battery is a ternary lithium battery. It is said that the ratio of nickel, cobalt and manganese is 1:1:1, unlike the 8:1:1 or 6:2:2 ratio of most electric vehicles. Although this battery does not have a high energy density of 811 batteries, it is reliable and durable.
The OBD code has indeed been changed, so that the Hybird Assistant cannot recognize it correctly, but the Dr.Prius can be used

According to Wikipedia, the G denotes as an engine for the Chinese market. One that is noted as largely identical to the A used in the rest of the world. Likely a minor change to account for China's fuel or emission regulations. The US doesn't require particle filters. Though it could be to just denote the engine was made by a Toyota/Chinese partner factory, and not Toyota proper.

Hybrids and plug ins need the battery to perform different jobs. For plug ins, the battery is made for energy to provide range. Not a concern for hybrids, they need the battery to provide power in short bursts. Thus the different chemistry blends.

I thought HEV & PHEV used the same chemistries with the PHEV battery having slightly higher capacity.

Same chemistries. That doesn't exclude tweaking the formulas and design to augment battery performance one way or the other.

Let's look at NiMH power tools. The battery pack is made up of standard sized cells; usually C. Have the right skills and tools, and you can rebuild a bad pack with new cells. Can't use off the shelf cells from a big box store though. Those are designed to provide long run time in toys and gizmos. A drill needs cells that dump their energy quickly to provide the needed power without having a short service life.

It is the same basic difference between a hybrid and plug in. The plug in car itself can still have powerful performance though having so many more cells to draw from.
