Just found out that there’s a safety recall on my Prius where the software needs to be updated. The issues with this recall involve sudden loss of power at high speeds. A 3 hour software update…I wonder if this software update will fix the consumption reading inaccuracies? Hmmm…. I’m taking it into a notable expert Prius mechanic who knows everything about how to fix anything on a Prius. Referred to me by my friend, who’s an electrical engineer, and a fellow Prius owner. I’ll report back tomorrow, Monday, on the results. Hopefully this will be figured out tomorrow. I can’t in good conscience sell my car to my friend with this consumption issue.
Thanks to everyone above with your advice. I’ll report back tomorrow with what my mechanic finds. He’s supposed to be the best with Prius’s.
How do I pull up the ODO history showing mpg and dates? I think that this may give me a better idea of my real consumption?
I believe it's the 'eco diary' that you can show on the small display. It shows daily distance and MPG as well as miles per kWh.
No , on the 14 it's called the past consumption screen ( with the Trip A history showing ) or more commonly called the "cons" screen here in the Gen 3 forums
Page 205 of the owner's manual Section 2-1. Driving Procedures HYBRID TRANSMISSION D is Drive, like a regular automatic on a gas car. This should be the transmission position that is most often used. B is "engine brake" and simulates "downshifting" or "2" or "L" is a regular automatic transmission in a gas car. B tells the computer to use the engine to supplement your braking (e.g. going down a long mountain highway). If you use this around the city, it doesn't let the engine shut off when you stop at a traffic light, essentially idling the engine like a regular car. Shift into D to let the engine shut off while stopped.
