the decision to take away the tax credit for high mileage vehicles would be very unpopular to say the least. it has been discussed but hopefully they will keep it in place. there are other ways to raise the money. i personally think we need to GREATLY increase the gas taxes
I'll try to be an apologist for all other car buyers, here, but your point is pretty reasonable. When I buy a car, not only do I want to pay a fair price and get real value for my dollar, I'd like to think I'm not paying anything more than anyone else. Regardless of whether that line of thought is reasonable, I think the condition is nearly universal. I could compare to see what else I could get for about $25,000. Unfortunately, I won't find another reliable, high-mileage car in that price category. The new Insight might fit some of that bill, but it is starting to get a bit small for me, and it just doesn't have the appointments. The Ford Fusion Hybrid has the appointments and size, but you can't find one for $25,000. In the end, I'll probably be just where I was a few years back -- paying up to MSRP not only was reasonable, it was downright "lucky" from the buyer's perspective. Looking at the Prius Pricing, I'd say that the II and III models are great bargains and the IV and V models force me to consider the costs of buying near-luxury cars to get some of the same appointments. Hmm . . . that sounds pretty good. Oh! What am I saying? I'm a buyer. I want the lowest price I can get, and then at least $25 less than what the last guy paid. OK?
I totally agree. I understand if I buy one in June, someone can get on priuschat.com in July and be like "I just got the package #3 with sunroof (my car) for $24k!!" This would make me cry since I will be paying $26,600 BUT I understand my need to have it NOW and get instant (or as close as possible) gratification will mean more $$ in the long run. HOWEVER, I don't want to buy mine and THE NEXT DAY see someone on here saying that. That means I got RIPPED OFF and I would be very mad. A scenario: I have a friend who never pays full price for craigslist items. I didn't even know you COULD bargain!! She says she goes in with all the money but puts 1/4 of it in another pocket. Then she offers say "will you take $20?" when she's there, even though they asked $25 and she's got the other $5 in her pocket. She's gotten the deal 9 times out of 10. Why? She is THERE. Her car is in the driveway. The owner wants the item gone and does NOT want to have to go through emails and more strangers looking through their stuff...so they say "okay". Will this work in toyota dealership? not sure but I'm gonna try. I mean, the more of these on the road and the more we spread "good news, good deal" around...the more sales they'll get. in theory, right? So make me happy and I will tell the world.
