I would like an ambulance siren on my prius. Imagine how many pedestrians I could startle then ;-)

Stupid is as stupid does. A man with a bicycle crossed the tracks in front of the moving train that he just rode. He's in the hospital & I hope NJT sues him for damage to the train and the disrupted service.

Thus, he is saying that people/lawmakers should be more concerned with the problem at hand rather than finding a solution and then looking for a problem. As Bob Wilson's stats have shown, no blind people have been killed by a Prius in 2007(?), yet 6 blind people were killed by vehicles (non hybrids).

Where is the outcry about SUV's and Pick up trucks killing people (blind and sighted)? Why aren't our lawmakers debating bills requiring modification of these pedestrian killing machines of instant gooey death?

In the end, drivers need to pay attention to the road and pedestrians. Pedestrians need to pay attention to traffic and traffic lights. When everyone is doing this, the accidents and fatalities drop significantly.

You are absolutely correct. All the pedistrians in the area where killed by pickups, SUVs, and one by a Ford Mustang - none by a hybrid. I have heard no outcry to have these vehicles make noise. I personally wish it was against the law for motorcycles to have open pipes. I think they are too loud but that's not the topic here.

Did a quick Google search of Lorena, TX pedestrians killed in the last 30 days. Hmmmm. Couldn't find but one . . . and even that one was back in may ... 3 months ago. Perhaps you could provide a link? Sure hope my inquiry isn't construed as flaming. Wouldn't want to be disrespectful of those who died.

I guess from now on, I'll include the news articles just for you Try searching for Troy, Eddy, West, etc. And that's not West Texas but West,Tx. All of these towns are in my area. My little village doesn't even have a traffic light. The last pedistrian killed in Lorena was killed by a freight train and the train was blasting it's horn. The pedistrian was walking on the tracks.

Was the pedestrian distracted (e.g. wearing an I-Pod or some such device), deaf, or just trying to commit suicide?

It's really bad when Trains need extra noise makers and flashing lights (above and beyond whistles, bells, lighted gates/bars with bells, warning signs, etc).
