Dont be jealous. That was my return trip. The trip there was only 49mpg. Like the OP I was simply posting a nice one way trip and ignoring reality of average mpg.
If you can do it again. Reset your Trip B odometer to zero and try to repeat your commute - then after you have achieved your stellar MPG performance - reset your Trip B odometer again. When you switch to the Trip B histogram display - the Prius will list your best FE for Trip B. if you can't repeat your performance - most people will probably give you some leery eyed look that is normally reserved for fisherman who talk about Merfolks.
No apologies for that mpg-speed combination. Don't expect to exceed an mpg + speed sum of greater than 120 under ordinary conditions. While I can get mid-70s on my commute under ideal conditions, I don't break 70 very often. And I couldn't do on my roads if the commute was just 11 miles round trip (warmup penalty must be spread over more miles) or if I took the 50-60 mph route. The other (uphill) direction of my 91 mpg segment wasn't even close to F8L's 49 mpg uphill.
Haha, I'm at the point where if it shows on my screen that I got 60ish mpg or something, I'll take it! I don't want to come back to reality just yet and think about the whole avg. mpg thing. haha. Makes me feel better The whole sum of 120 thing is a new way for me to look at it. Thanks for that! I hit 60mpg today on my one way trip to work. Feels good, even though I know I should really be thinking about the "avg mpg" as a whole. My current Trip A with 210 miles so far says 56.4 mpg though! So I'm happy about that.
You should be able to do this (drive 50 miles with a consumption between 60 - 70 mpg). Just keep your top speed down (slow down from 75 mph to 60 mph, for example). Assuming you don't hit crosswinds, (or driving in cold temps) you should be able to do this without issue. I'd say do it as a round trip (25 miles out and 25 miles back to try to minimize the impact of wind).
