coocoocachoo, You are correct. The battery IS dying. The Toyota tech told me the car was rebuilt improperly with bad grounds and not reflashing the computers. In addition, the traction battery is stressed even though voltages are registering properly, just not holding charges long. The drivetrain is dragging due to misalignment causing poor mileage. He said never buy a salvaged prius. Too many issues can occur.
bisco, Yeah, had the 3 tested and inspected today as well. Was told the car is as new and was restored correctly. I got lucky on that one, especially with low miles. The 2, no such luck. My decision will be to keep the 2 or sell it as is. Both cars were from State Farm insurance, sold at auction, dealer bought, sent to two different Toyota facilities for pass front door replacements, paint, etc. All filters, fluids, cleaning done, new tires, brakes, and certified. Oddly, I paid $10k for the 3, and $13k for the 2. Thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and education. Never thought I'd like a prius. At $7 a gallon for gas here, a prius is a smart move and actually fun to drive.
Ok that totally sucks. Since you bought it from a stealership, was it as is or did it have some kind of warranty or a CPO? Its straws that we're grasping at before we call it. Another option would be to trade it in as well.
Unfortunately, bought both as is. No warranty. My bad. Called dealer. They offerred a buy back or trade to save face. Going in two days to see what they have before a decision. Again, thank you to all who responded. Here in southern california, it's great to meet other prius owners who smile, wave, and nod knowingly. And I am glad to know all of you in this post and more in this forum.
Well, I got my money back in full. Apparently, the Toyota tech flagged the car and the Toyota repairing facility to Toyota corporate. Got a call from the dealer to return the car due to safety concerns. Also given $500 for my trouble. Since I am a two car person, the next find will be a 3 or 4 tech.
Gen4s are better even if they have been wrecked and sold as is. At least in California with some consumer protections.
