I'm planning on putting a hitch mounted bike rack on the back of my Prius (once I get it, still don't have one). Anyone here done this? How has it affected your mileage. It doesn't seem to have an affect behind my Subaru Outback. Also, how does the added ~50 lbs. affect the ride or handling. Thanks, Derl
I installed Coastal's 2-inch hitch, and have not noticed any drop with just the hitch. Theoretically it changes the undercar aerodynamics some, and there is the added weight, but I could not tell a difference. I can't quantify the drop with the rack and bikes from my own experience, but some have posted losses of several mpg with bikes on. Higher speeds wuld of course have a greater penalty.
