Does anyone know what the options were from factory? I have a base model 05 with a JBL logo on my head unit and a center speaker on top of the info screen unit. I have seen other people say they don’t have the center speaker. There’s also an amplifier of some sort under the passenger seat. I’ve also noticed in cars with Nav, they have way more sound adjustment settings, and the speakers (looking through the grille) have silver speaker cones. Also I’ve seen people say aftermarket head units dont work with the “JBL amplifier” and my friend might buy a Gen 2 soon. I’m curious what to suggest to him to buy in terms of options packages. Info is appreciated!
You can still put an aftermarket system into one with the JBL nonsense, but it's more work and often requires replacing the speakers as well, as they are an odd impedance.
Appreciate the info @Leadfoot I found a youtube video and it looks pretty complex wiring wise. iPhone ?
@audiodave can't be for nav, my car has the center speaker and no navigation. My car is a base model with no "hands free" phone, no nav, cloth seats.
hyp3rmil3r is correct, the center speaker is part of the JBL setup and nothing specifically to do with the nav system. When you have navigation, the navigation instructions are channeled via the driver's side speaker.
Base audio unit is a 6-speaker system (one in each door plus one in each A-pillar area but attached to the door). The upgraded unit is a JBL 9-speaker system (with an amp). It adds two tweeters to the rear doors plus the centre mono speaker above the 7" MFD. The A-pillar speakers will have the JBL logo. The base unit is a single-disc CD player. The JBL audio system is a cassette and 6-disc CD changer system. (This is for 2004-2005 models. 2006+ got rid of the cassette player)
Np! Oh and base units have bass and treble adjustments while JBL units have bass, mid and treble adjustments.
Guess I had the upgraded set up. I have the rear tweeters and nav with center speaker on my 04. None of that is used anymore since changing out the entire system. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
if you're planning to replace the sound system, better to avoid the jbl system. its way easier to upgrade the base system especially if you do it in stages. of course if your gonna gut the car for dynamat and install an extreme system then it really doesn't matter anyway.
